Leftist Group Calling For Facebook Boycott Is Still Running Ads On Facebook

As usual, progressives have different for themselves than they do for everyone else.

Color of Change, a left-wing non-profit organization and one of the main forces behind the current call for corporations to boycott advertising on Facebook, has different rules for itself. As companies rush to appease the PC police by jumping on the bandwagon, and CNN runs a piece scolding companies that won’t, the group that started the whole thing is running its own ads and apparently is quite proud of it.

The call to boycott alleges that Facebook is giving a platform to hate groups and must stop. In reality, those calling for boycott are targeting conservative organizations based on a Southern Poverty Law Center list of “hate groups” that lumps in religious liberty groups like Alliance Defending Freedom, the farthest thing in the world from a hate group like the KKK.

A search of the Facebook site that tracks what ads are currently running shows that Color of Change is currently running 4 ads, for which they paid a total of nearly $30,000. That might be chump change for Facebook, but it isn’t for progressive political non-profit organizations. Color for Change, which demands no company advertise on the site, is perfectly comfortable using the popular platform for their own devices.

In response to a question about this from The Media Nut, a spokesperson for the organization had this to say:

“We’re not asking organizations or political campaigns— especially those already fighting against inequality by mission or existence— to stop running their asks,” said Brandi Collins-Dexter, senior campaign director for Color of Change. “We also have not asked politicians to join because this is explicitly not about left/right politics but the bigger issue around the ways the platform cynically profits from hate and disinformation to our communities’ detriment.”

So let’s get this straight. This organization says that Facebook is such a smoldering cesspool of hate that companies like Starbucks shouldn’t advertise there, but its fine for them to do so? In fact it’s fine for any organization that shares their progressive beliefs? This sounds a lot like the real goal here is to make Facebook a platform that only features ads from the left.

That is something that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has vehemently opposed. Though imperfect, Zuckerberg has stood up much more strongly against the woke mobs than Twitter’s Jack Dorsey and he deserves credit for it. Instead, cynical corporations are siding with Marxists to deplatform conservatives and create one party rule at Facebook.

As with so much on the left, the rules apply to everybody except themselves. This is a feature not a bug. The whole point of these campaigns is to erase conservative thought and ideas. Thus far, Facebook has been far stronger in the face of the mob than many corporations boycotting them. We can only hope it remains that way.
