Chronic Science Denier Stacey Abrams Falsely Claims ‘It’s A Fallacy’ We Can Know When Pregnancy Starts

Georgia gubernatorial candidate and chronic science denier Stacey Abrams is once again spreading lies to justify her extremist abortion agenda. This time, she’s denying that it’s possible to know when pregnancy officially begins.

“The arbitrary standards of timelines ignore the medical reality that it is a fallacy we know exactly when the pregnancy starts, that we know exactly where we are in the system, I mean, in the term,” Abrams told Fox News Sunday host Shannon Bream.

As modern science, medicine, the federal government, and many states have determined, this is blatantly false.

For decades, medical textbooks have recognized that life begins at conception, which is classified as the moment an egg, produced by a woman, is fertilized by sperm, produced by a man.

“[The zygote] results from the union of an oocyte and a sperm. A zygote is the beginning of a new human being. Human development begins at fertilization, the process during which a male gamete or sperm … unites with a female gamete or oocyte … to form a single cell called a zygote. This highly specialized, totipotent cell marks the beginning of each of us as a unique individual,” Dr. Keith L. Moore wrote in “The Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology.”

Even Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion supplier in the U.S. and proud supporter of Abrams’ first gubernatorial campaign, concedes that “Pregnancy officially starts when a fertilized egg implants in the lining of the uterus.”

That didn’t stop serial denier Abrams, however, from using her erroneous claim to promote her unlimited abortion agenda.

When Bream asked the Georgia candidate whether she supports any restrictions on abortion, Abrams, much like other vulnerable Democrat candidates in key races, refused to outright acknowledge that she wants unlimited abortion through all nine months of pregnancy.

“I’ve always said that abortion is a medical decision that should be made by a doctor and the woman and that the point of viability as determined by a doctor should always take into consideration the life and health of a woman. That should be the standard,” Abrams said.

Most voters, including half of Democrats, want to limit abortion to the first trimester of pregnancy, but that hasn’t discouraged Abrams from bragging on her campaign website about repealing Georgia’s six-week abortion ban and rejecting any “legislation that would further restrict abortion rights.”

Abrams, who also wants to defund crisis pregnancy centers because she wrongly says they “do not provide medically accurate information to women who are pregnant,” recently denied that unborn babies have heartbeats.

Instead of correcting Abrams’ false claims that in utero heartbeats as detected by ultrasound technology are “manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman’s body,” Planned Parenthood replaced the six-week heartbeat milestone on its website with “cardiac activity” that “sounds like a heartbeat on an ultrasound.”
