For decades, Democrats have ridden out the interest of third-wave feminism’s propaganda campaign, taking for granted that most women voters see them as the party of female empowerment. For as many decades, plenty of American women have let them.
Even at the height of the feminist movement, the lies that women must become like men to be real women were damaging — but now, all pretenses are up. Every major political platform of the left is unabashedly antithetical to the protection, celebration, and dignity of womanhood. Women have one political camp on their side today, and it’s the right.
Celebrating Women’s Capacity for Motherhood
As the country awaits the Supreme Court’s release of its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, which is expected to overturn the imaginary right to kill a child in the womb, one side is screaming that women’s inherent biological capabilities to bear children are not something to be celebrated but something oppressive to be (literally) ripped out of women’s bodies. Womanhood and its functions are bad, inconvenient, and must be bloodily suppressed for women to achieve their potential, they say.
This side is also firebombing women’s shelters that provide help and hope to pregnant mothers, using scare tactics in an effort to shut down the very support they accuse the right of not providing. And none of that compares with the fact that abortion advocates support the murder of hundreds of thousands of baby girls in America every single year.
On the other hand, it is the right fighting for the lives of these baby girls, offering support and supplies to women through pregnancy centers, and recognizing a woman’s life-giving functions as something honorable and wonderful. Women aren’t so helpless that we need the license to kill babies in order to be successful — but only one political party today will tell you that.
Demanding Responsible Men
Some of the fiercest advocates for abortion are men who don’t want to shoulder the emotional and financial responsibilities of providing for their children and their children’s mothers. The leftist abortion narrative invites men to impregnate women and then pressure those women to kill the resulting children, saddling women with the trauma and guilt of abortion.
Unlike abortion, marriage protects women. It demands that men offer provision and loyalty in return for a woman’s love, and gives women stability. In advocating for committed, healthy marriages and families — and the rejection of self-indulgence they require — conservatives promote a culture that makes both men and women better people and makes them happier too.
In contrast, third-wave feminism fed women the lie that marriage was oppressive and limiting, not rewarding. Combine that with radical individualism’s message to commitment-phobic men, and you’re left with a lonely culture of single women wondering where all the good men have gone.
The left’s attack on marriage has hurt women, not helped them — and a political camp that demands responsibility from men will do far more for women than one that encourages both sexes to indulge their short-term lusts. In the latter scenario, both lose, but it’s almost always women who are left with the most baggage and hurt.
Protecting Women’s Defensive Equalizers
One of the very practical ways the left’s agenda hurts women is its fight to take away women’s right to self-defense. Most men are physically stronger and more powerful than most women, and a woman is statistically more vulnerable to a male assailant. As many as hundreds of thousands of Americans, mostly women, are victims of rape or sexual assault every year.
A concealed handgun is one means a woman can overcome her attacker’s likely physical advantages. It’s a great equalizer — a woman doesn’t have to have big muscles or martial arts training if she’s capable and responsible with a handgun.
Yet the left already denies women the right to carry such defensive weapons in places like crime-infested New York City, where concealed-carry permits are “almost impossible to obtain” and that typically require applicants to prove their profession requires the use of a firearm. Left-leaning politicians want to make it as difficult or more so everywhere in the country, leaving women with fewer means to defend themselves; it’s the right that wants to ensure women have access to the firearms and training that can protect them from harm.
Acknowledging the Reality of Womanhood
Perhaps the most obvious way the left undermines women is its denial of women’s very unique existence. We all remember Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson telling lawmakers that she couldn’t define what a woman is. The idea that men make the best women — in sports, in government, and even on game shows — is offensive and demeaning.
Likewise, the faddish left-wing obsession with calling women “pregnant people,” “birthing persons,” “people who menstruate,” “people with vaginas,” etc. for the purpose of including medically modified men is objectifying and reduces women to their reproductive organs.
It should go without saying that a political movement that denies women’s very nature is not pro-woman, while the side that recognizes women are beautifully and uniquely designed — with biological and emotional strengths no man can replicate — is.
Protecting Physical Security in Women’s Spaces
A man who claimed to be a woman and was housed in the women’s section of Rikers prison in New York City pled guilty in April to raping a female inmate. A former prisons minister in England alleged “situations of male prisoners self-identifying as females then raping staff.”
In Woodbridge, Va., police reported that a 30-year-old man dressed as a woman “filmed a woman in a bathroom stall at the Potomac Mills Mall.” In 2018, nine homeless women filed a lawsuit against a California women’s shelter alleging that a man who dressed as a woman (identified as D.N.) “during shower times … would repeatedly make lewd and sexually inappropriate comments to some of the plaintiffs. D.N. would allegedly ‘stare and leer at plaintiffs while naked and make sexually harassing comments about their bodies.’”
In the California case, the shelter blamed its state Housing and Urban Development Department funding for its inability to address the problem. Sure enough, it’s Democrats and the states they lead that want to force women’s shelters, prisons, bathrooms, athletic programs, and other sex-specific spaces to allow men — either men who genuinely believe themselves to be transgender, or men who exploit indiscriminate policies to gain access to vulnerable women.
Democrat policies from abortion to radical transgender ideology have done nothing but demean, endanger, and traumatize women, offering lies that only leave them further and further dependent on the party and its talking points. As those talking points become more and more disconnected from reality, it’s increasingly obvious that one side of the political aisle is hostile to women and their wellbeing, and the other side is on the right.
