Children also performed a politically charged slam poem that condemned American police for allegedly killing people for the color of their skin.

A leaked video from a presentation called “Growing Young Voices: Understanding Black Lives Matter for Teachers” shows that fifth graders at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools performed a politically motivated slam poem that reinforced the left-wing lie that American police kill people purely on the basis of their skin color.

A recording of the fifth graders giving the poem was presented by Michelle Holmes and Carl Farrington, teachers at the Lab School. The poem, ostensibly titled “Gone,” referenced various instances in which African American people had died in confrontations with the police and others, characterizing the deaths as consequences of living in a white supremacist system.

The students referenced Trayvon Martin, who was fatally shot after a violent confrontation with George Zimmerman. Even the Obama administration’s Department of Justice “found insufficient evidence to pursue federal criminal civil rights charges against George Zimmerman.”

The poem used these deaths to argue that “these people only got shot because of the color of their skin.” In the video below, the two teachers explain their teaching and show clips of their students. The names and faces of the children involved have been obscured to protect their privacy.

Holmes goes on to explain how she uses her role as a teacher to prime students to accept far-left beliefs on racially based reparations. She explains that she wants her young students to hear the language of reparation so that they’ll be ready for Carl Farrington’s class, which features debates on “why we need reparations for slavery.”

Holmes also explains that she teaches her students to withhold forgiveness for racial sins, ensuring the continuation of racial separatism and hatred.

Holmes also discussed the “unapologetically black” portion of their curriculum, which she said “scares white teachers the most.” She continued, saying that even though white teachers might be afraid of this portion, they “live unapologetically white, that’s what your life existence is.”

In the video below, Holmes also explains that being “unapologetically black” means showing up to work not ready to serve students: “It means that Carl walks in with a do-rag in the morning because it’s the morning, honey, and I’m not ready for you.”

Their overt desire to indoctrinate young students and turn them into vehicles for extreme political action is made all the more apparent by the presentation’s inclusion of a quote from the founder of the Black Panther Party. It reads, “The revolution has always been in the hands of the young. The young always inherit the revolution.”

An article in Legal Insurrection from Paul Rossi pointed out the coordinated nature of curriculum such as this, contending that leftwing agitators in education are “sequencing content across grades in a sophisticated manner, in order to turn children into social justice warriors.”

This trend is present in both government and private schools, as they attempt to not just indoctrinate children, but to intentionally turn them into activists and even co-conspirators.

The University of Chicago Lab School did not respond to a request for comment.
