A new survey finds that more blue-collar American workers approve of President Trump than those who disapprove of him. Of the 1,049 Americans surveyed, 44 percent said they approved of Trump’s job performance, while 40 percent said they disapproved, according to a new Harris Poll commissioned by Express Employment. By contrast, 52.8 percent of all Americans say they disapprove of Trump’s job performance in the White House thus far while 43.8 percent say they approve of him, according to the Real Clear Politics poll average.
Eighty-six percent of the blue-collar workers surveyed said they are satisfied with their jobs and 91 percent said they are proud of the work they do. Eighty-five percent said their lives were headed in the right direction and 51 percent said the country is headed in the right direction, compared to 40 percent of all Americans who say the country is headed in the right direction, according to the Real Clear Politics poll average.
A majority are skeptical of the government, with 53 percent responding “it’s more likely that Martians will land on earth than I will collect Social Security” and 70 percent saying they don’t trust elected officials. But this skepticism of government did not dampen their perspective on the American dream and the prospects of future generations. Eighty-eight percent of those surveyed said they anticipate that their children will have a brighter future than they did, and 70 percent said “the American dream is alive for people like me.”
