When Barack Obama became president of the United States, it was a rebuke of George W Bush’s presidency. Bush’s reaction was muted. He painted pictures and let his successors be his successors. That’s the way it works. Eventually you aren’t president anymore, and you let the next guy do his thing.
There was a hope that Obama would treat his post-presidency the same way. But it turns out he didn’t. He has chosen to engage again and summon more chaos.
The ex-president is making it clear that he is judging the new administration. He has said that he “is heartened by the level of engagement taking place in communities around the country.” He means the people in the streets almost every day in liberal cities decrying Trump’s rule.
Obama, from whatever vacation locale he resides in now, is demanding that we resist. He insists we must resist this un-American ban on immigrants. Okay, maybe we do. Maybe we don’t. It’s a matter of opinion. One which the former—and I stress former—president had his chance for eight years to do whatever he wanted with. He didn’t do much.
Here is what he has to say now: “President Obama is heartened by the level of engagement taking place in communities around the country. In his final official speech as President, he spoke about the important role of citizens and how all Americans have a responsibility to be the guardians of our democracy — not just during an election but every day,” the statement, released by Obama’s spokesman Kevin Lewis, reads. “Citizens exercising their Constitutional right to assemble, organize and have their voices heard by their elected officials is exactly what we expect to see when American values are at stake.”
The Helicopter President
What is this level of engagement? It’s protest. It’s sad that progressives don’t understand that they do not represent the common American. They are activists still lost in the wilderness of wokeness, who think the country has shifted in their direction. President Obama has become the pussy-hatted patriot standing athwart the danger of Donald Trump. Okay. But what about the pussy-hatted cub?
I get why Obama would want to forgo traditional protocol about discussing presidential successors. President Trump is the Don Rickles of politics. It’s pretty clear he views Mexicans as people who do a nice job picking up the rooms in his hotels. That is what it is.
But dig it, ex-President Obama: You are ex-President Obama. You lost. Hillary didn’t just, lose, you lost. The American people looked at your historic presidency and said “No, thanks.” That’s a hell of a thing given the historic nature of your presidency.
So now we know Obama will hover over us. He will proclaim it when we have gone too far. He will proclaim, as Shakespeare wrote, that when he opens his lips let no dog bark. But we will bark. We will stand up, and the Left is going to have to deal with it.
President Obama had a good run. He was a fabulous favorite. But it’s over now, and it’s time he just goes away.
Alright, Obama, Lay Those Cards
Instead, it seems Obama is going to try to stick it to Trump. That’s a new thing. Obama is a pretty heavy cat—he became president on the back of nothing. Well, Trump is a heavy cat, too. He became president on the back of nothing.
Here we go. The table is set. What cards are Barack Hussein Obama going to lay down? I can’t wait to see.
