November has been the deadliest month this year for U.S. troops in Afghanistan. On this episode of the Federalist Radio Hour, Bre Payton and Amber Smith discuss America’s longest war, PTSD, and migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. Smith is a combat veteran helicopter pilot in Iraq and Afghanistan, and former deputy assistant to the secretary of defense.

“Politicians shy away from any movement in Afghanistan because they don’t want to get blamed for a war they didn’t start,” Smith said.

She is the author of, “Danger Close: My Epic Journey as a Combat Helicopter Pilot in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
