Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin has snagged a re-election victory in West Virginia, beating Republican Attorney General Patrick Morrisey. Multiple television networks have called the race for Manchin by 51-45 percent, with 57 percent of the precincts reporting.

In West Virginia, which overwhelmingly voted in favor of Donald Trump in 2016, Manchin has had to walk a fine line to retain support from a constituency that favors the Republican president.

Manchin was the only Democratic senator to vote in favor of confirming Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court , after a poll found a large number of West Virginians said his vote on Kavanaugh would affect their decision to vote for Manchin.
