What is the origin of birthright citizenship, the 14th amendment, and the debate over its interpretation? Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, joins Ben Domenech on the Federalist Radio Hour to explain. They discuss tourist births, asylum laws, and the practical implications of eliminating birthright citizenship.

“This is exactly what the Supreme Court is for…to resolve a dispute over some ambiguous language where there are smart people making plausible arguments on both sides,” Krikorian said. “The President can’t set up a whole scheme for how we deal with citizenship. He can say I interpret this provision in such a certain way…it’s Congress that needs to set up a rule.”
