Ham: Media Has Double Standard On What Comedians Can Say

‘Samantha Bee called Ivanka Trump a ‘feckless’ word I can not say on TV… and there will not be a nine-day news cycle about that.’

Mary Katharine Ham joined “CNN Newsroom” on Thursday morning for a panel discussion on Trump’s response to Roseanne Barr’s controversial tweets. Ham pointed out the double standard of the media’s obsession with inflammatory comments from Barr and Trump, but not from liberal comedians like Samantha Bee.

Comedian and TBS host Samantha Bee went on an incendiary rant on her show Wednesday night about Ivanka Trump and a photo she posted with her child.

“You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c-nt!” Bee exclaimed.

Ham agreed that we can all denounce the racism of Barr, but still not want a “nine-day Roseanne news cycle.”

“You can recognize the racism of Roseanne and that she should be punished for it socially, and recognize that there is a double standard,” Ham said. “Including the fact that one Samantha Bee called Ivanka Trump a ‘feckless’ word I can not say…that is the worst word you can call a woman on TV and there will not be a nine-day news cycle about that.”
