President Trump announced that Rex Tillerson is leaving the State Department in a tweet Tuesday morning, and said Tillerson would be replaced by CIA Director Mike Pompeo.
Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!

Trump thanked Tillerson for his service, and announced Gina Haspel will become the new CIA director, the first woman to hold that position, when Pompeo leaves. “He will do a fantastic job!” Trump said.
The announcement came as a surprise to many, including State Department officials who have claimed that Tillerson found out he was canned from Trump’s tweet.
