When it comes to foreign policy, Rand Paul behaves like a velociraptor, The Federalist senior contributor D.C. McAllister said on The Mike Church Show.

McAllister joined the show to address criticisms that Paul’s foreign policy was isolationist and would leave the United States vulnerable.

“A lot of people have been casting him in this isolationist mold,” she said. “He is not an isolationist and he is not a hawkish neocon either — a full fledged interventionist — but he’s a strategic interventionist.”

McAllister further explained those in dinosaur terms, and compared Rand to a raptor.

“The hawks and neocons are kind of acting like T-Rex out there in the field, and the brontosaurus are over there. They’re the ones who are isolationists,” McAllister said. “Rand Paul really wants to be a raptor. He wants to get targeted, strong, vicious, lethal strikes where they count.”

In an article defending Paul, McAllister explained that the 2016 hopeful would “defend our nation, but without losing our nation’s soul.”

“He wants smart strength,” she said. “Not just blanket, irrational strength that will not work.”
